Stock valuation makes no change in a founder's bank account. Investors normally purchase new shares which dilute existing shares. They rarely purchase shares directly from the founders. So, the founder bank balance doesn't change at all. This is actually shown in the initial graph where the founders ...

If you plot the founder value versus company valuation in dollars, the founder value increases in a linear fashion. This occurs as the company valuation increases exponentially. This linear value increase for a founder is due to constant dilution of founder equity as the valuation increases. You ...

Congratulations with your fully launched B2C product. I will try my best to answer your questions. 1) Is it necessary to go through a reincorporation process to adjust share distribution? No 2) Do I need legal assistance for this, and if so, would it be more cost-effective to undergo reincorporation, ...

If there is competition in your same space then I recommend becoming an expert in your competition. It is very important to understand how your competition fills the customers needs. What is your competition doing that is right for the customer? What is your competition missing? You asked "In your ...

I would guess that raising a Series A round or any investment will continue to be difficult in 2024. The lack of funding will result in a lot more Zombie companies or companies barely surviving and unable to grow. Investors can easily spot a Zombie company. I think a lot of companies will need to ...

Most contractors advertise their services and experience and state a specific hourly rate. For example Upwork will show programmers with different experience, ratings and cost per hour. You will still have to verify that they actually have the skills and they are legitimate. There are a lot of contractors ...

Congrats on closing your funding round! We didn't hire until we had revenue and profit. We started all our technical hires as contractors to make sure there was a good fit before hiring as employees. Not all contractors made it to employees and that can be a positive thing for the company and the ...

In order for me to be tempted to be a cofounder in a new venture I would need to be excited about the company. I would need to see a clear vision and how I could add value. Other questions would be.... does the idea have the potential to be a business? Where is the business? Is it just an idea or does ...

Is your co-founder a good friend, or were they an acquaintance when you first started working together? I don't recommend going into business with a friend unless you are willing to walk away from the relationship. The stress of any business can cause serious relationship problems. Most businesses ...

Yes, I have a cofounder. I think most companies should have cofounders to diversify the talent pool. I tried starting earlier companies by myself in the past and they didn't work out. Operating a company in a vacuum is very difficult. It is also very possible that your cofounder doesn't want to ...

I think it is important that the founders are in alignment with the exit strategy from the start. What are the shareholder needs? Every shareholder/founder has their own individual needs and goals. For example do the founders want a $5M, $50M, $500M or $1B valuation? And how do these valuation ...

Thank you for your input on this topic. It is nice to hear that CEOs should be paid based on the stage of the company. ------------------------------ Paul Bodnar ------------------------------

all great points... and I'm guessing it comes from a lot of experience. I would also add an appropriate vesting schedule. For example, a 4 year vesting schedule is used a lot. This is so founders stay motivated at the early stages of the company. Some people recommend even longer vesting schedules. ...

I like to break the marketing into three categories, owned, earned, and paid. Each category has advantages and disadvantages but all have to be monitored for effectiveness. Things change fast so what worked last month might not work today. I would say the overall best marketing strategy for us was ...
