This is the first post of our most frequently asked questions series. I wanted to start by discussing what actions on the platform trigger a notification when a security is modified. Only legal admins can modify a security and notifications are sent only when a security has been accepted by the holder.
Notifications are automatically sent by Carta and they cannot be disabled.
Below is a chart which shows what notifications are triggered when a certificate, option grant, RSA, or RSU are modified. These all trigger a notification because they are considered a significant change.

Modification of warrants triggers no notifications.
Convertible notes have more fields that trigger a notification when modified so I am using a this section below to capture them. They are the following:
- Issue date
- Currency
- All documents
- Maturity date
- Principal
- Valuation cap
- Conversion discount %
- Conversion trigger
- Change in control %
- Interest rate %
- Day count convention
- Interest accrual period
- Interest compounding period
- Interest payout
The review modal of the modifications will indicate when a notification is sent, as you can see in the screenshot below:
