Employee:
Curious about my latest equity grant. I’m not seeing it in Carta under Holdings. Am I looking in the wrong place?
Me (Carta Admin):
We have a board meeting in a few weeks - the board will approve it then and then you will see it in Carta.
We batch the option grants into one approval per Q - to keep things in order.
The process we have for granting options:
1. Right before a board meeting, we take a look at all the employment agreements that have started since the last board meeting & make a list in Google sheets (Name, email, # of options, VCD)
2. People & Finance team reviews the list in Google sheets
3. Finance team loads into Carta (Securities -> Equity awards -> Draft options)
4. Finance team creates Board Consent with list of options, using Carta Board Consent feature
5. Board approves Board Consent & Carta automatically sends the list of draft options to signatories (ie CEO & VP Finance)
6. Carta sends options to the various employees for acceptance
7. Once accepted, Carta Total Comp shows the # of options in the Total Rewards statement
Step 6 & 7 is the first time that the employees are seeing inside Carta the # of options they are being granted .
They saw the # of options in their employment agreement when they started, but during that time (maybe 2-3 months) the # of options is not available to them in Carta or CTC.
This seems like a weird gap to me & an opportunity to create a better experience for employees.
