Addressing 2FA issues
Switching phones without migrating your authenticator app first is the most common reason people get locked out of Carta. Here's how to get back in.
If you have your backup codes:
Use one at the login screen. Once you're in, go to User Settings → Login & Security to reconnect a new authenticator. Backup codes are one-time use — save whatever's left.
If you don't have backup codes:
Start logging in as normal, then click "Try other options" when prompted for your 2FA code
Follow the identity verification flow — you'll need a government-issued ID
Carta typically processes these within one business day
One thing admins should know: 2FA resets must be initiated by the individual account holder — you can't action this on behalf of someone else from the admin panel, for security reasons.
Prevent it next time: Save your backup codes in a password manager when you first set up 2FA. Takes 30 seconds.
