How employees register and accept their equity award on Carta
Once your company issues an equity award and the necessary officers have signed it, employees will receive an email invitation to register on Carta, or log in if they already have an account.
Before accepting
Employees can review all award details before signing, including their name, vesting schedule, share price, and grant date. Misspelled names are a common issue, so it's worth double-checking closely. If anything looks incorrect, flag it directly to the company administrator. Some details can still be corrected after acceptance, but catching errors before signing avoids extra work for everyone.
Accepting the award
Open the email invitation and click the link to register or log in. You can register with a different email than the one that received the invitation, as long as you open the original invite email and click the link in it.
Review the award details and all attached documents.
Provide an electronic signature to complete acceptance. The signature field is case-sensitive, so it must be entered exactly as typed.
Why it matters
Acceptance unlocks everything else. Until an employee accepts, they cannot submit exercise requests, view their full portfolio, or use any other Carta features tied to that award.
If an employee is stuck
Direct them to Carta Support for help with registration or technical issues. Company admins can also resend the invitation from the stakeholder record.
