Recap: Cap Table Plugin Learning Lab (October 27)
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Cap Table Plugin Learning Lab! Brianne Villamor led a hands-on tour of how to use Claude with the Carta Cap Table plugin, with our product and AI teams on hand to answer questions.
Highlights
Start with the basics. Connect the Carta connector and plugin, then ask plain-English questions like "What is our current 409A?" or "How many unvested shares does this employee have?" Keep related follow-ups in the same chat and start a new chat for an unrelated question.
Build a Cap Table Home. One prompt, "build me a Cap Table Home," creates a live, interactive page with round history, option pools and stakeholders. It gets pinned in your artifacts so you can refresh it any time.
Reporting artifacts. Claude can pull grants, certificates and vesting schedules into one report that you can filter and export to Excel or Google Sheets, replacing several separate reports.
Draft equity issuances. Upload a spreadsheet (or paste text from an email or Word doc) and Claude drafts option grants, certificates and profit interest units for you to review, instead of copying and pasting each field.
Why use it alongside Carta? It adds flexibility with different input types and fits into your other workflows, so there is less uploading, downloading and re-keying.
Five principles to take with you
Claude is a word calculator, so ask for clarification rather than leaning on it for math.
Give Claude the context and the goal, not the step-by-step.
Always have Claude cite its Carta sources so you can verify them.
Use artifacts to make recurring reporting faster, cheaper and more reliable.
If an output misses the mark, ask Claude why.
Your challenge this week: use the Cap Table plugin once, whether that is pulling a report or asking a simple question.
We would love your feedback. Which repetitive or manual transactions would you most like to see automated next? Reply below or message us here in the community.
