What are the Carta plugins for Claude?

Carta offers plugins that connect your Carta data directly to Claude. Describe what you need in plain language and get answers instantly — no logging in, navigating screens, or pulling reports manually.

Carta Cap Table — Query ownership, SAFEs, convertibles, grants, valuations, and financing history. For company admins and investors.

Carta Fund Admin — Access fund metrics, NAV, partner data, portfolio company financials, and generate tearsheets. For fund admin users.

Carta CRM — Manage investors, companies, contacts, and deals. For fund admin users with CRM access. Supports read and write.

How do I get access?

Everything you need is in the setup guide. It takes about 2 minutes. The plugin is read-only, and you control exactly what data Claude can access.

Is access available to everyone on my team, or just one person?

The plugin uses per-user OAuth — each person authenticates with their own Carta credentials. All GPs and team members can connect individually. There's no shared credential or team-wide toggle.

Is it read-only? Can Claude make changes to my Carta data?

For Carta Cap Table and Carta Fund Admin — yes, completely read-only. Claude can query and analyze your data but cannot create, edit, or delete any records. Carta CRM is the exception: it supports read and write for managing investors, companies, contacts, and deals.

Who can use the plugins?

Carta Cap Table — company admins and investors. Carta Fund Admin — fund admin users. Carta CRM — fund admin users with CRM access. Employees and portfolio holders without investor access are not currently supported.

Do my team members need a corporate Anthropic account?

No. Personal Claude accounts work. Each person can install the plugin individually.

Is my data secure?

The plugin is scoped to your firm or organization's data only. You authenticate with your own Carta credentials via OAuth, and Claude can only see data your account already has access to. Questions about data governance can be directed to plugins@carta.com.

Which version of Claude does this work with?

The plugin works with Claude Cowork, Chat, Code, and other MCP-compatible clients.

I'm on Claude Teams or Enterprise. Can I install it myself?

On Claude Teams/Enterprise, custom connectors like Carta aren't in the standard Connectors list — they need to be installed through the plugin's own Connectors section. If clicking Connect doesn't open a Carta authorization modal, ask your Claude Admin to enable it for your team account.

Using the plugin

Does it work with Excel and Google Sheets?

Yes — Claude can query your Carta data and help you format or export results for both.

Is this the same as the AI assistant inside the Carta product?

No. The in-app AI assistant is embedded in Carta's product UI and is on a separate development track. The Carta plugins connect your data to Claude, which you use outside of Carta. Both are coming; neither replaces the other.

What's on the roadmap?

Future phases include expanded data coverage and write capabilities with confirmation safeguards for Cap Table and Fund Admin. We'll communicate through official Carta channels as features reach general availability.

Troubleshooting

Plugins aren't appearing in Claude

Claude Desktop: restart after installation and check Customize → Personal Plugins. Claude Code: run /reload-plugins to re-register the connector.

Authentication failed

Make sure you're logging in with your Carta account and that your user has access to the data you're querying.

Can't add the connector (permission error)

Your organization's Claude settings may restrict adding custom connectors as an individual. Ask your Claude admin to install it for the full organization.
